Auto Repair: An Essential For Your Vehicle

by Administrator 10. May 2012 18:35

Vehicles are prone to regular wear and tear as time passes. Even the most careful drivers and the most ardent car lovers can’t escape the wrath of normal depreciation in an automobile. No matter how careful you are in keeping your vehicle in the best condition, your car is bound to start faltering on one account or the other. It could be a problem with the tire alignment, the engine, oils, paint, etc. The only way to keep it going for years to come is regular maintenance through repairs as and when needed.

Auto repair is essential to prevent one problem in the vehicle from growing onto the whole car. It’s important to get a fault repaired as soon as it surfaces. This keeps the vehicle from deteriorating further and boosts its lifespan. The repair can be done oneself or with the help of a professional. Most of the people prefer getting the job done with the help of professionals as they are sure to provide the best services and get the work done to your satisfaction. Some who have basic knowledge about automobiles manage to do simple tasks like oiling and auto brake repair. At the end of the day, it all depends on one’s personal preference and of course the budget.

There are a few signs that give one an inkling as to the need for repair. You must be very careful to notice these signs. Be wary of strange sounds from the engine. It could be an indication of some internal damage. If your car appears to be leaning onto a particular side, there might be some problem with its alignment. Sudden spikes in fuel consumption could be indicative of leakages in the fuel tank or a simple lack of maintenance. Regular maintenance also involves oil change. Lubrication extends the life of an engine and keeps it cool and clean.

As far as cars are concerned, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. The slightest delay in repairing a fault could end up costing you a lot more than regular maintenance. Small repairs come with small bills and keep a vehicle in great shape for years and years. It’s best to get the repairs done from a workshop of good reputation. Even though you may have to shed a few extra bucks for the job, it will be worth it in the long run.

Handling Auto Collision

by Administrator 3. May 2012 21:27

Auto collision has become a common spectacle witnessed on roads. If you happen to be one of the unfortunate people to be caught up in such a situation, it’s very important to know what to do in the aftermath of a collision. The right reaction can prevent further injuries, reduce costs and accelerate the clean-up and repair process. Don’t indulge in a blame game after the collision but act rationally and face the situation gracefully. Even though the possibility of having an accident is higher for those above 50 years, anyone driving a car is subject to some risk and should be well aware of how to tackle the situation.

At the time of collision, stop your vehicle at a place that’s safe and legal. Turn off the ignitions and make a first aid check of all the persons involved. Call the police. If necessary, call the emergency services. Use retro-reflective triangles or flares to mark the scene of the accident. Gather the names of the people involved in the accident and those who witnessed it. Note the date, time and weather conditions and briefly sketch the whole situation. Note down the other driver’s license number and exchange the insurance company information.

Keeping a first aid kit in your glove compartment can be a life saving move. It can be very helpful for supplying immediate medical aid to an injured passenger. Taking photographs of the damage can make it easier for you to claim compensation for the damages. Filing a state vehicle accident report as soon as possible will make it easier for you to speedup the claim process. Remain calm and collected and be honest while dealing with both insurance companies and police officers.

Getting a car that’s involved in a collision repaired can be a costly affair especially if there is significant damage. Before getting your car repaired, do some homework on the estimate of the damage. With the estimate in hand, you can explore the auto parts market, and see if you can get some of the parts at a cheaper cost. Try paying for the repairs done at the body repair shop by cash. You could stand a chance of being offered some discount. Make it a point to ask about any special deals and offers, as auto collision repair shops usually offer their customers certain rebates and discounts. All said and done, if the situation is well managed, and the correct information is gathered in a timely manner, your insurers can be of immense help to help you recover the repair costs.

For any kind of auto collision repairs in Central Texas visit Coleman Auto Restoration Systems. We are located at 1914 S. IH 35, Belton, TX 76513. You can also call us at 254 933 7400

Paintless Dent Repair On The Rise

by Administrator 26. April 2012 19:48

There is no worse feeling for any car owner than seeing an unsightly dent or ding on their car. There are endless problems involved in going about this, the conventional way. First of all, you need to pay a reasonable amount of money to get the problem straightened out. The second major problem that most car owners dread is, having to leave their car at the service center even for a few hours. When you put all that together with having to go from having an ‘untouched’ car to a ‘repainted’ one, the situation is indeed grim.

That’s where the exciting option of paintless dent repair comes in handy. This is one of the most advanced methods of car repair, and is rapidly gaining popularity. It can be used to fix common dents, which would have to be otherwise worked upon in the traditional method, involving repair using paint. This method, however, might not be useful in repairing sharp dents, dings near a panel edge, deep dings, and other major faults. The method is based purely on technique, and needs to be performed by a well-trained professional. The results are no less than magical, considering that they leave the car looking as good as new, usually without as much as a hint of the previous damage.

The major advantage of opting for paintless dent repair is that it involves very less time, sometimes as less as a few minutes. Many professionals offer the option of sending a PDR expert to the site where the repair is required, whether at home or at office. This is possible because the procedure requires minimal equipment, and does not need any major analysis to be carried out before it can be performed. That means that you do not have to stay carless even for an hour. Moreover, the whole process is very cheap as compared to conventional car repair. It can be as less as four times when compared to getting the car re-painted.

Another advantage of opting for paintless dent repair is that it is environment-friendly, since there is no paint involved. Moreover, you save yourself the risk of getting paint that differs in color from the original paint of the car. In addition to all this, it helps a great deal in the future, by ensuring that you get a good price for your car, by not having the ‘repainted’ tag attached to it.

We at Coleman Auto Restoration Systems specialize in paintless dent repair, interior and upholstery repair, scratch repair, auto detailing and restoration. We provide services in Killeen, Belton, Temple, and Waco in Central Texas. For more information, kindly visit us at 1914 S. IH 35, Belton, TX 76513 or call us at 254 933 7400.

Restoring Your Car

by Administrator 19. April 2012 20:12

Old and used cars wear off with time and lose the sheen and splendor they once had. This is but natural considering the amount of depreciation that the vehicle undergoes over the years. The good news is that one can restore the lost glory once again to the vehicles with a little bit of hard work. It’s sure to pay off once done.

Restoring a car is a process that many car lovers resort to instead of selling an old car to replace it with a new one. This process involves cleaning, replacing or restoring the worn out parts of an old car. It not only involves the parts that people can see, but also includes the mechanical components like the engine and breaking system.

Auto restoration is a process that proves immensely beneficial to old cars. It increases their value and adds years to their life. For many, it’s a hobby that takes a lot of time, patience and money. Some restore a car to achieve a long lost dream of owning a classic car that they can’t otherwise afford. Others restore a vehicle for sentimental reasons. They are probably too attached to it to let it go. Whatever the reasons, this job is not for the unprofessional to handle. It may even take several months. Hiring a mechanic for the job is a better option than doing it on your own.

Restoring a car involves the following:

  • A major part of restoring a car is repairing the engine. It’s advisable to hire a mechanic for repairing it as it is the heart of the car. Steam washing and painting a repaired engine also come within the ambit of restoring.
  • Another important aspect of restoring is checking the gearbox and the transmission. It’s important to change the oil in the transmission and the gearbox.
  • Replacing rusty or damaged body panels comes next in line. The body of the car has to be strong.
  • Car windows are checked for cracks. If need be, the windows should be replaced with new ones from an authorized auto glass shop.
  • Polishing the car with chrome polishing products ensures that it looks as good as new. The rubber which lines the doors and windows can also be sprayed with silicon spray so that they operate smoother.
  • As far as the interiors are concerned, try to install brand new upholstery and change the floor panels.
  • Finally, you can restore the original paint color of the car to add more value to it.

To make sure that your vehicle remains in the top condition at all times, visit us at Coleman Auto Restoration Systems at Belton Texas. Why Cars Needs Regular Servicing?

by Administrator 12. April 2012 19:09

The importance of getting a car serviced regularly cannot be stressed enough. Servicing a car at regular intervals is crucial regardless of the make or sophistication level of the car. Your car is bound to undergo normal wear and tear over the years. Servicing it increases its life and boosts its performance significantly. A well serviced car has fewer costs of repairs and breakdowns and even maintains fuel efficiency.

Benefits of regular servicing:

  • Saves on fuel: Regular maintenance of your vehicle increases its fuel economy. During a service session, the pressure in the tyres is checked. The wrong tire pressure can result into a lot of fuel wastage. Driving a car with the right amount of tire pressure saves up to 5% of the fuel. Clogged air filters also drain more fuel. Getting them checked by a mechanic regularly decreases fuel consumption by up to 20%. So, if you want to save money at the pump, keep your car serviced.
  • Keeps your car’s value high: Servicing your car as per the schedule in its owner’s manual will not let its value depreciate. A well serviced car can be re-sold easily at a very good price. Regular maintenance keeps your car free of problems and cuts down on unwanted costs of sudden repairs. Properly-maintained cars attract more buyers at higher prices.
  • No breakdowns: Regular servicing makes your car more reliable and less prone to sudden embarrassing breakdowns. You can detect a fault in the early stages and prevent it from becoming a bigger problem. Any issues that you feel may hamper your car’s performance can get fixed in a service session.

What a service includes:

Services vary widely and differ according to the make and model of the car. The owner’s manual of your car has the details regarding the specialized service for your car. Standard service includes the following:

  • Lubrication of working parts
  • Oil and filter change
  • New spark plugs
  • New fuel filters
  • Checking the tire pressure
  • Ensuring the lights are in proper condition
  • Checking the steering suspension
  • Ruling out any leaks
  • Checking the fluid levels

While choosing a garage for servicing your vehicle, make sure the garage is well equipped with modern tools. Also ensure that the parts and fluids replaced if any are the genuine manufacturer’s products for your car. Looking after your car is an investment that will keep your car’s wheels turning and gears working for a long time.

Touching Up Small Scratches On Your Car

by Administrator 5. April 2012 19:39

When you own a car and drive it, an occasional dent or scratch is bound to happen. As much as you might protect your prized possession, when it’s out on the road, a bit of a hit here or there is bound to happen. So what do you do when you notice an unsightly scratch on your gorgeous set of wheels? Stare at it hopelessly, and do nothing about it? Hell no! Touching up minor scratches is about the simplest thing you can do, or even get done professionally for your car.

The process consists of just a few simple steps as illustrated below:

  1. Buy paint that is the exact color as the paint of your car. Even though the label on the inside of the driver’s window is a good reference for the color of paint, you still need to make sure that it matches, since the original paint might have faded if the car is old.
  2. Buy a small artist’s paintbrush (preferably #2) from the local art store. Make sure that you do not use a fat brush, as that is likely to ruin the job.
  3. Clean the scratched area with mild soap and water, dry thoroughly with a soft towel, then apply degreaser to remove any oil or grease.
  4. Scratch the area with 1200-grit sandpaper, then clean it with denatured alcohol.
  5. If the scratch is deep, and has exposed the metal, you will need to apply primer to fill up the exposed region. You can use a toothpick for this purpose, as you need to ensure that the primer does not overflow. Let the primer dry completely for 2-3 hours.
  6. Fill the scratch with paint using the #2 paint, allowing it to slightly overflow on the sides. Leave it to dry for at least 24 hours.
  7. Level the scratch with 2500-grit paper, followed by a rebuff with high-quality polish.

Even though the entire process might sound easy, be sure to get to it only if you are completely confident of your skills. Otherwise, you would be much better off seeking professional help, which will ensure that your car comes out as good as new. When compared to the permanent damage that you might cause by experimenting with your car, the price that you will have to pay to a professional is insignificant.

Why To Opt For Commercial Car Wash

by Administrator 26. March 2012 20:13

Do you remember the first day you brought your dazzling set of wheels home? It was probably one of the biggest achievements and proudest feelings of your life. The sad part, however, is that after a few months of rigorous cleaning and religious servicing, most of us begin to take our cars for granted. That’s when they go from being a shining medal to just another vehicle on the road. It’s always a good idea to keep the memory of the first day you got your car alive, and treat each day like the first!

One of the best things you can do for your car is getting a commercial car wash. The benefits of this simple and inexpensive procedure are numerous. The biggest of these is that your car looks just as grand as it deserves to, and you feel proud each time you step in and out of it. One may argue in favour of washing their car themselves, instead of visiting a commercial car wash centre. While that’s definitely better than no cleaning at all, the biggest downside to it, is that, you need to worry about the quantity of water and car-care products being consumed. This results in an overall inferior result, when compared to a commercial car wash.

Before you jump to the conclusion of commercial car washes involving wastage of water, you need to know that these are actually an eco-friendly option, since they usually recycle the water that’s used once, to use it repeatedly. The result is a cheaper, better, and much-less bothersome process. Commercial car washes are of various types, and you need to choose whichever one suits you best. For instance, you can choose between automated systems and manual ones. While the latter usually have better results, they might be a little more expensive.

Another factor to consider is whether the car wash includes a wax after the wash, or if the waxing is a part of the washing process. It might help to read the manual that came with your car, and see if there are any special instructions regarding the type of wax to be used. If the car wash station that you are visiting includes towel-drying as a part of the process, you should check and see what kind of towels they use. Make sure that they are soft and non-abrasive, to ensure that no harm is caused to the paint of your car.

For complete cleaning of your vehicle, contact Coleman Auto Restoration Systems at (254) 933-7400. Our trained professionals will make sure that your vehicle looks as good as new.

Importance Of Car Detailing

by Administrator 19. March 2012 17:15

Car detailing refers to the thorough washing, drying, polishing and waxing of cars. It involves extensive interior and exterior cleaning of the automobile and is done in an attempt to retain the car’s former glory and charm. Frequent usage of automobiles makes them more prone to wear and tear. Ignoring the dirt building up on the car and inside it can severely depreciate it.

Importance of car detailing:

  • Pleasant for occupants: A well detailed interior is far more pleasant for the occupants of the vehicle as compared to an unkempt one. Interior detailing involves frequent vacuuming, treating the plastics and leather surfaces and brushing the seats. It also gives a pleasant interior scent.
  • Increases the resale value: A car is an important investment and regular detailing protects it. A car that is frequently detailed has more chances of being highly appealing to potential buyers. A well detailed car speaks volumes about the owner. It makes it very easy to sell and undoubtedly increases its value by hundreds of dollars.
  • Simple to maintain: A clean and well maintained car is far easier to maintain than one layered with coats of dust. You will be doing your mechanic a big favor by keeping your car clean as it will be very easy for him to spot the problem areas in a clean engine. Simple tasks like checking the oil and other fluid levels become pleasant experiences.
  • Improves the appearance: Regular car detailing improves its overall appearance and gives it a look close to that of a brand new one. Detailing involves waxing which is great for preserving the paint of the car. The plastic dressing on the soft plastic parts of the car ensures that these parts look their best.
  • Automobile shows: Car detailing is crucial if you want to make your car noteworthy in automobile shows. These competitions give a lot of importance to the cleanliness, brilliance and maintenance of the vehicles.

You can opt for a professional agency to help you with your car’s detailing. It will save you on a lot of time and do the job with perfection. Professional detailers have the know-how, equipment and appropriate cleaning materials to deliver the best results. Taking Care Of Car Tires

by Administrator 12. March 2012 16:17

Tires are a very important part of your automobile. To keep your car rolling for many years, it’s imperative that you take good care of the tires. Tire life depends on various things like the tire pressure, alignment, rotation and tread. Tires are not a cheap affair and that’s one big reason for which their care and maintenance should be taken seriously.

Tire maintenance tips:

  • Inflation pressure: An indispensable part of caring for your vehicle’s tires involves keeping a tab on their inflation pressure. The tires should neither be under-inflated, not over-inflated. Under-inflation causes undue stress on the tires in addition to increased chances of accidents owing to loss of control. It is advisable to keep checking the inflation pressure every month and before embarking on long trips.
  • Tire alignment: Sudden jolts and potholes can be detrimental to your tire’s alignment. This can damage the tires to a great extent. To increase the life of your car’s tires, it’s important to keep checking their alignment periodically. Misaligned tires can lead to handling problems and uneven wearing out of the tires. In addition to this, do check the tire balance too as poor tire balance could lead to unwanted wobbling.
  • Check the tread: Poor tire tread can result in a bad road grip of the tires when required. Frequent visual checks of the tread are necessary. Check out for unusually smooth areas on your tires.
  • Tire rotation: Regular rotation of your vehicles tires ensures that they wear out evenly. It’s best to rotate the tires every 5000 miles. For more information on this, you can check your vehicles owner’s manual for the rotation recommendations. After rotations, it’s advisable to adjust the inflation pressure too. Timely rotations ensure good gas mileage and better overall performance of the car.
  • Minimize off-road drives: Try to avoid travelling on off-roads or dirty roads as this could lead to frequent punctures and  wear and tear of the tires. As much as possible, drive on smooth roads to increase the life of your car’s tires.

In addition to all this, keep your car clean and well serviced. Your car is a reflection of your personality and a well-maintained car reflects a responsible owner. Timely care and maintenance of your car’s tires will improve its performance tremendously and keep it going for many years to come.

To know more about tire maintenance or for any other related query, visit us at Coleman Auto Restoration Systems located at 1914 S. IH 35, Belton, TX 76513 or call us at 254-933-7400.
